About Me:

Who am I?

My name is Jonathan Holland. I live just outside of Seattle, WA with my wife and two kids.

I am a software developer, doing primarily web oriented work of late, though I do enjoy writing an occasional windows application.

What am I interested in?

As you can tell, my primary interest is in computer programming, but I do actually leave the office on occasion. Some of the activities I enjoy:

  • Outdoors - I used to hike and cycle a lot. I miss it.
  • Family outings with my kids
  • Good cinema.
  • But also, cheesy B movies.
  • Eating out at unique restaurants.
  • Reading news aggregator sites like .

As far as programming goes, I am a fan of Microsoft technologies. I used to be a typical kneejerk Anti-Microsoft open source fanboy, but then I got a real job, and started working with the .NET Framework and was incredibly impressed.

Most of my hobby work (and all of my professional work) is now done using .NET, and I don't have any plans on changing this.

What is Gfilter?

GFilter was an experimental site that I setup in 2008. It was a search frontend that utilized Google. It allowed the user to create a blacklist of pages and domains that they did not like, and filtered them from all future search requests.

I took the site down when Google launched , which was essentially a clone of my concept.

I'd like to think that someone at Google stumbled across GFilter, but it was such an obvious idea that they probably came up with it on their own.
